Chainsaw Carving Championship Happening Father’s Day Weekend

Looking for something to do with dad this Father’s Day?  How about taking him to enjoy the Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Carving Championship in Reedsport?  Enjoy food and beverages on the scenic Reedsport waterfront as you watch artists transform plain logs into one of a kind masterpieces.

What’s a Chainsaw Championship?

Many carvers think of a chainsaw championship as “the test.”  Most carvers won’t call themselves a pro until they win the semi-pro division at the Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Carving Championship in Reedsport.  Pro carvers, semi-pro carvers, and international carvers will compete this Father’s Day weekend for the title of pro.  If you think you’ve got what it takes, you can register as a carver here or learn about the artists already registered at the event.

This will be the 20th year of this event, which was awarded “The Best Performing Art Festival Of Oregon” award in 2011.  Each year the event grows and continues to attract carvers from around the globe.  The State Legislature named Reedsport “The Chainsaw Carving Capital of Oregon,” which means there’s no better place for this annual show of craftsmanship.

The show consists of two events:  The Master Carving, in which artists have four days to complete a main sculpture, and Quick Carves, in which artists create a finished piece each day within 90 minutes.  Quick carve sculptures are auctioned off each day.  If you fall in love with one of the master carvings, you can buy those too, though they are sold individually from each artist.
