Well this got weird. There’s been a slight change of plans for those who had planned on seeing the beautiful Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain in Newport. The famous ships are on a new course this summer and are now headed for Coos Bay and Astoria in July.
Apparently, due to lack of parking, congestion, and lost business, neighbors and local fisherman have raised objections causing the Port of Newport to cancel the port call. The visit from the famous ships in Newport was initially scheduled for July 12-30.
“We are splitting the time,” Brandi Bednarik, executive director of Grays Harbor Historical Seaport told KGW. “The first two weeks will be in Coos Bay and the last week in Astoria.”
According to Bednarik, there were more than 2,100 people who had reservations for the scheduled Newport sailings. Her nonprofit has already begun to offer refunds or an opportunity to rebook tours for Coos Bay and Astoria. For anyone who has already purchased tickets for the tall ships in Newport, are reportedly getting priority for exchanges.
For anyone who purchased tickets and want to either exchange or get a refund, you can call 360-532-8611 or email [email protected].
