So this may be the most terrifying thing you watch all day. The thought of the big one hitting Oregon is always on our minds. Afterall, we really haven’t had any major earthquakes here, at least not in my lifetime. And how could you forget with the media seemingly always cramming the big what if down our throat?
In fact, they say the risk of a major quake on Cascadia Subduction Zone is even higher than previously thought. And just a reminder, if you call Oregon, Washington, California, or BC home you are right where the Cascadia subductions at. Yes, it’s way out there in the ocean, but we have a 15 to 20 percent chance of the big quake hitting in the next 50 years and when it does we’re definitely going to feel it.
The video, with the Burnside Bridge shaking and then crumbling to pieces during an 8-plus magnitude earthquake, is part of Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge. This is a county project “to create a strong river crossing that can withstand a major earthquake.”
