Over the years I have learned many things that impact my overall happiness and well-being, but maybe none more than self-confidence. Being bullied in elementary and middle school I struggled with this the most when I was younger but over the years I have developed a strong boost in self-confidence and it has been nothing short of life changing.
To be a leader, to start and run a business, to be successful, to live an above-average lifestyle you need to be confident in yourself and your abilities. You need to be aware that you are worthy and that you can achieve anything you set out to do. The following tips will help you boost that self-confidence that is crucial for living the life of your dreams.
Self-confidence is not only a state of mind but a skill. Confidence must be learned, practiced and mastered just like any other skill. But once you master it, your life will be changed for the better, forever.
Identify and overcome any limiting self beliefs. Really think about why you tell yourself you can’t do something, be a certain way, or achieve a certain goal. Are these limiting self beliefs your own or imposed by someone else? A good book for reference and working through these limits is ‘The Artist’s Way’ to help unleash creativity. Creativity is the core to many things whether art, lifestyle or business.
A famous Henry Ford quote states, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right,” emphasizing how much attitude determines success or failure. Overcome self doubt by identifying what is stopping you and investigate what you need to do to achieve your goal. Write this down: When making goals be SMART – make your goals:
And always be learning. Knowledge gives you options and options give you confidence. There are two main reasons for learning throughout life: for personal or for professional development. These are not mutually exclusive from each other, as either may improve employment opportunities and enable personal growth. Learning shouldn’t stop when you graduate.
I love learning new things but don’t have a ton of time to sit and read so I use my car as a mobile classroom, always playing a motivational or education audio.
If you haven’t already you should download the app Audible on your phone. They have thousands of books on audio. Having more knowledge and skills have been crucial to my boost in self-confidence.
Next, find your biggest fans and keep them close. I call these people my cheerleaders. We all have at least one or 2. Surround yourself with people who genuinely make you feel positive about life. Make sure to avoid pessimists, those who are always negative and those who discourage you from following your dreams.
Embrace the fear. Once you have done the preparation, you have visualized the success, you have learned from the experts, and surrounded yourself with people that support you. I want you to imagine you are standing on the top of a mountain ready to take your first hang gliding flight. You’ve learned the theory, you’ve watched the experts, you’ve got supportive knowledgeable people by your side and you are ready to make that final step into the air. You have the confidence. Now go fly.
