73-year-old man sniffs coke in front of officer during traffic stop

This is just too outrageous not to share. A 73-year-old man who apparently has not been identified, was pulled over around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, after driving his silver Toyota past an officer with his headlights off in Seattle.

According to a posting on the Seattle Police Department’s blog, the officer found the man to have a clean record, and when he returned to the car with the man’s license to let him go with a warning, the man was “portioning out a scoop of cocaine from a small glass vial.”

“Are you kidding?” the officer asked incredulously. “You’re about to snort coke by the side of the road?”

“Are you kidding? You’re about to snort coke by the side of the road?”

According to the news report at The Oregonian, the coke sniffing tried to convince the officer the coke spilled now all over the floor and his hands was vitamins, but eventually came clean.

As you’d expect, the man was arrested and booked into King County jail on drug charges. He did admit that snorting cocaine in the middle of a traffic stop was probably not the smartest idea.

I really got a kick out of the public service announcement Seattle police put together thereafter. Please take number 3 very seriously:

  1. Pull over to the right
  2. Be prepared to provide license and registration
  3. Don’t use cocaine, “especially during a traffic stop”
