From Florence to Cannon Beach, if you’ve had knock-you-off-your-feet clam chowder on Oregon’s coast, you were probably at Mo’s Restaurant. June 22 marks the opening of the newest Mo’s Restaurant location, in the Englund Marine building in Astoria.

A Rich Oregon History

Starting in the late 1940s as a cafe called Freddie and Mo’s, restaurateur Mohava Marie Niemi’s strong work ethic and warm character paired with the kitchen’s stand-out cuisine helped Mo’s develop a reputation as the ultimate destination for an Oregon Coast dining experience. While Mo herself passed in 1992, her restaurant legacy has grown into a string of Mo’s Restaurants along the Oregon Coast, each serving their acclaimed clam chowder and other succulent seafood dishes. Mo’s has entertained famous diners like the late Senator Robert Kennedy, Paul Newman, and Joanne Woodward.

Community Contributions

In true Oregon fashion, Mo’s Restaurants are big on community. They regularly work with non-profits for fundraising chowder sales and host fish and chips dinners to support volunteer fire departments. Four different Mo’s locations have a special “MOtivation for Kids” table. A portion of the check for every meal eaten at these tables is donated to charities that serve children.
