PITKIN COUNTY, Colo — A Colorado mother had a very close call Friday night, when she literally pulled her son from the claws of a mountain lion. According to the news at KHQ, the young boy was playing outside his mom, in his front yard with his sister when he was attacked.

The boy’s mother heard screaming, and to her horror found a mountain lion on top of her 5-year-old boy. She fortunately was able to pull the boy away from the animal, when his father then drove the injured child to the hospital shortly before 8pm.

The story reports the child is now in fair condition, but has suffered injuries to his head, face, and neck. The mother also reportedly had some minor injuries as well.

A mountain lion was found near the home, and deputies as well as U.S. Forest Service have put the animal down. It’s also reported a second lion could also be in the area, which they are trying to find.
